I started my accounting career as a receptionist, answering the phones and running to get lunch at a local mid-sized OKC accounting firm in 1993, after my first year of college.
From there, I was able to learn all aspects of a public accounting firm; accounts payable, accounts receivable, bookkeeping, check writing, coding, tax preparation and much more.
Starting as I did was a valuable asset to me in my career, not only learning the ropes from the ground up, but also having client contact from an early stage. I talked to clients daily and got to know them and their businesses. It became my favorite part of my job.
After working for the same firm (through its various changes) for many years, 2005 was the perfect time to start to find my way on my own.
From the beginning, my goals were just a few:
*be able to make my own schedule, and be flexible
*be able to explain accounting in a plain, easy to understand way
*set aside time to visit clients' offices for accounting and Quickbooks support; to get to know them in their environment where I could help the most
At that time, I partnered with a brand new client to rent an office from them in downtown OKC. The same office that I am in to this day.
I have been married to my best friend, Marty, and have gotten to love on his kids, Bryce and Baylee, since November, 2006.
Marty and I live in Yukon, Oklahoma with our thirteen year old son, Brecken. We all love to hike, travel, and hang out on the beach with friends and family in our spare time.
I am originally from Enid, Oklahoma. I lived there my entire childhood and graduated from Enid High School in 1992. Go Plainsmen!
I then moved to Edmond, Oklahoma to attend and graduate from the University of Central Oklahoma with a Bachelors of Science in Accounting.
I passed the CPA exam in 2000, back when it was just you, a pencil and a calculator.
I have been a member of the Oklahoma Society of Certified Public Accountants since 2000 and hold a permit to practice in the state of Oklahoma under the Oklahoma Accountancy Board.
A CPA attends 40 hours of continuing education each year as a requirement to hold a permit to practice, with 2 hours of required ethics education. Other subjects are compilation, taxation, technology and general accounting.
